This simulation was created to teach users the basics of quality assurance and inspection. The Inspection Training Simulator is especially useful for training situations where in the real world, flaws appear rarely or are otherwise difficult to teach and the stakes of product failure are high.
Here a 3-D computer model of the object is visually inspected and realistic flaws are displayed at random. The trainee must find and indicate the flaws. Almost any product or operation may be presented to the trainee for inspection. Current examples include a valve-burner assembly for gas fireplaces, a package for a high-tech medical catheter device, and a motorcycle cylinder head.
